The Functional coatings for oversized components

The application of functional coatings for oversized components used in the energy industry is always a technical challenge for our colleagues from the Department of Thermal Spraying VZU Plzeň. One recent example has become a five-meter / three-tun turbine shaft, for which we carried out a complete restoration of functional diameter. The applied coating serves to restore the desired functional properties of the shaft, with an emphasis on the demanding functional surface characteristics for instance the high hardness (90 HRC), abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance of the final surface. In this case we chose Atmospheric Plasma spray process. allowing coating application under extreme temperature exceeding 20 000°C. Such high temperatures are suitable for deposition of coatings based on pure ceramics.
